Weekenders ~ Journey of Recovery, 21-24 June 2024
Joining Mags on the sober road this weekend.
A belated Happy Birthday Marty!
Peke is right about it being the journey not the destination because there is no destination as such for the likes of us but every poison free day is a win.
The days start getting shorter. Fittingly for this thread that is a sobering thought.
Well done for finding your way back RunnerF
Glad you made it to your destination Mags. That old Roman proverb says the road to Hull is paved with good intentions

Sao, groan!😏
Hi Weekenders! Thanks Mags for another great thread. This time, (had 4 years before) I am journaling and keeping a daily mood chart. It's very helpful for me to see patterns emerge. To see that I am making progress and that I have come through some really painful, emotional stretches without succumbing to alcohol. I'm looking after myself better, and appreciating that this is a time for much needed emotional growth.
I don't want to jump forward to some nebulous point where it might be "easier".
I want to savour each day, because I'm 66 now and mindful of how precious time is.
MLD, belated Happy Birthday! 🎂
It sounds like you had a lovely day.
Peke, insomnia must be really difficult to cope with. Thinking of you.
Mags, I'm glad you got your internet sorted.

Marty, a belated happy Birthday!
@Canadian Koala I was watching the england v Denmark match earlier today. It wasn't the best but at least we didn't get beat.
I went for a lovely walk this evening. It was sunny and warm with quite a few people out walking. I'm grateful to be sober to be enjoying the longest day.

Happy belated birthday MLD.
Zen I love those cats…(even though you know I’m a dog person) and the Lite Brite!!
Today I had a rare afternoon with my husband. I was so worried about having a cute outfit/perfect hair and getting to the restaurant in time for an early dinner.
But then I thought ***wait. All of that isn’t important. It’s the time that we have together that counts. It’s not about my shoes or the restaurant. It’s about being together and being in this moment. It’s about laughing in the car on the way to the restaurant. It’s about noticing the sun and the sky. It’s not about my hair or the color of my pants.
It’s about the moment and the journey.
Thank you again Mags for always making me remember what’s important. ❤️

Good Morning Weekenders
Robbie, an evening walk sounds good. Lovely when the weather is right for it.
Peke, pleased you had a good lunch with your husband. Precious times. ❤️ I read a book years ago and never forgot the words ‘precious present’ that the girl in the book was looking for. As she got older she discovered it was here and now! The precious present. It struck a chord with me as I was always thinking about what next instead of enjoying the present time.
The weather looks promising today. Think we’re going to have some sun! Though seeing the world forecast it’s extreme heat in some parts of the world. Keep safe if it affects you.
Have a good sober day! Shout out if you’re struggling!
Love to all Weekenders xxxx

Sober weekends are the best.
No muss, no fuss.
And I found, or rather, rediscovered, that joy, in its purest form, is feeling better than any chemically induced feeling.
When my sweet old man Jack was lost for 20 days, and the minute I saw him, a flood of joy went thru my whole body. There is no word that I know of to describe how happy I was.
I was on cloud nine for the rest of the day over finding my sweet old man, unharmed. ![Smilie](https://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Billie and I are going to bed now.

Love that Mags..”precious present”. And it’s easy to remember too. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Hi Least! It’s so good to see you here.
Congrats on day 352 Dog.
Got five hours of sleep. But had some awful nightmares.

Enjoy the game Koala. Pleased the weather is cooler for you. Ours is warming up. Not unbearable though.
Peke, ugh it’s horrible having lack of sleep and nightmares! Hope you’re feeling ok later.
