I used to be in the habbit of opening a bottle of wine the moment i got home through the door, "my treat" .

Instead i put a tub of luxury chocolate chip ice cream camoflaged in a frozen brocolli bag in my freezer ( to deter other fridge and freezer prowlers ) and used to reward myself with a small bowl of it once i'd got home .

I could feel like i was still giving myself a treat for getting through the day , enough to help me get through .. i kinda weaned myself off it after about 3 months ...

I have a lovely jar of wild tazmanian honney in the cupboard wich i use as a little infrequent treat once in a while nowdays

Bestwishes, m

You and she are two of the most admirable people I have never met.

True examples of what it means to live a purpose driven life. Your exceptional kindness, willingness to always extend a kind word, and belief in the value of support, makes me want to close my eyes and silently reflect on the potential mankind may possess...

Heartfelt thanks brother.

When I'm cooking dinner and really want those few slugs from the bottle I used to keep near the sink, a few spoonfuls of really rich ice cream make the urge pass. I don't even LIKE ice cream -- but it always works!

I also play the tape a lot. When my AV paints a romantic picture, I try to confront it with the reality.

Personally, I think most of this stuff has universal application Riky - a AV is an AV.

If my craving was getting bad i used to rush to the batroom and dive into the shower , something about getting physically clean and massaging my body was sensious enough to get me out of my own head/ funk for a while, I also got a shower radio so i could rock out and sing along a bit .

Take care , m

Something i posted on another thread got me thinking …

I found thinking about NOT drinking could be as maddening as thinking about drinking . I used to try and find some thought or task to keep myself occupied away from thinking about drinking and also thinking about not drinking .
I found something involving my hands good, like painting a picture or playing a computer game , something that demands mental focus and attention and a certain amount of physical input .

Love and miss you Carol,
And may your bravery and grace with illness give us perspective and inspire us to have strength and courage when feeling out of control and frightened.
I know that the God you reunited with in sobriety embraced you with arms as wide as your compassion embraced us. I am so grateful for your help and example. Thank you for watching over us now.

thanks all for the ideas and support. scheduled a massage on the way home from work, planning a hot bath with lavender after that. then, who knows, maybe use teeth whitening tray so I couldn't drink even if I had it. I recognize, from past attempts , that 1 is an illusion. my "off" button is gone. if I start I'll be back to drinking everything in the house. so, thank you.

I just recently noticed that cravings don't last long. Distraction really worked!
