If you own a blender, a breakfast smoothie is a delicious and easy way to energize your morning. Get your protein, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals using combinations of fruits and vegetables, protein powder, Greek yogurt, unsweetened almond or soy milk, or flax or chia seeds which contain the essential fat, Omega 3. There are many smoothie recipes to choose from and you can experiment until you find out what your favorite recipes are. If you decide to use chia seeds, use about 1/3 cup. You can soak them in water—about 2 cups for every 1/3 cup of seeds—for anywhere from 10 minutes to overnight.
Just remember to keep your fruit portions small so you’re not overloading the smoothie with sugar (about 1/2 cup is good). Try mixing chia and almond milk with spinach, pineapple, mango and banana, or pomegranate, banana and orange. You can also blend celery, parsley, cucumber, mango and ginger together for an even more invigorating boost to your morning.
